The development comes two days after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) detailed the reasons for the party’s debacle in these Assembly polls.

After beating the party in the just concluded Assembly polls, Congress Speaker Sonia Gandhi has asked the party’s heads of state in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur to resign.

The development comes two days after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) detailed the reasons for the party’s debacle in these Assembly polls. The Congress did not win in either state, losing Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has asked the PCC chairmen of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur to resign in order to facilitate the reorganization of PCCs,” party chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala said on Twitter.

The CWC in its marathon meeting had asked the president of Congress to initiate the necessary changes in the organization to strengthen it.

“The COR unanimously confirms its confidence in the leadership of Smt. Sonia Gandhi and requests the Congress President to lead from the front, address the organizational weaknesses, make necessary and comprehensive organizational changes to meet the political challenges,” it said after the meeting.
