The Banks Board Bureau (BBB) on Wednesday recommended the name of Alok Kumar Choudhary for the post of director of State Bank of India.
The head hunter for directors of state banks and financial institutions also recommended A Manimekhalai, Ajay Kumar Srivastava and Swaroop Kumar Saha for the MD position of Union Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank and Punjab & Sind Bank, respectively.
The Bureau interviewed 21 candidates and selected Alok Kumar Choudhary for the position of general manager of SBI based on their performance, BBB said in a statement.
Choudhary, who is Deputy Director (Finance), will replace Ashwini Bhatia, who has been appointed a full-time member of Sebi.
Before that, he was the general manager of the Delhi region for three years.
The final decision on the appointment will be made by the cabinet’s nomination committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BBB is headed by former Human Resources and Training Secretary BP Sharma.
The Prime Minister approved the creation of BBB in 2016 as a body of distinguished professionals and officers to make recommendations for the appointment of full-time directors and non-executive chairmen of public sector banks (PSBs).
It was also charged with the task of collaborating with the board of directors of all PSBs to formulate appropriate strategies for their growth and development.
In addition, they were asked to frame the strategy discussion on consolidation on the basis of need. The government wanted to encourage bank boards to restructure their business strategy and also propose ways for consolidation and merger with other banks.
