The governor of Punjab, Banwarilal Purohit, took the oath of office and secrecy to Mann during the swearing-in ceremony that took place in Khatkar Kalan.

Aam Aadmi party leader and former Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as prime minister of Punjab on Wednesday, days after Arcind Kejriwal’s party turned the tables and stripped Congress in a landslide victory.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit swore an oath of office and secrecy to Mann during the swearing-in ceremony that took place at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district of Punjab. Mann took the oath in Punjabi.

Mann addressed the audience at the event after taking the oath, promising to remove corruption and create jobs in the state. He also promised to work for those who did not vote for the Aam Aadmi party.

He said Bhagat Singh was concerned not only about India getting its freedom, but also about the hands it will get once it is free. “His concerns were justified. We are going abroad to those from whom we have taken our freedom. We will stay in our country and work to improve it,” he said.

Mann recited a verse from Bhagat Singh and said, “It is everyone’s birthright to love, why should I not make the soil of my country my beloved?”

In addition to the newly elected AAP MLAs, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Chairman Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Prime Minister Manish Sisodia and other yellow-turbaned leaders attended the ceremony.

The AAP took home 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab assembly, decimating the Congress and the SAD-BSP combination.
