The BJP’s dilemma over choosing a prime minister for Uttarakhand was triggered by Dhami’s loss in Khatima, a seat he had won since the 2012 Assembly polls.
Pushkar Singh Dhanmi will remain as prime minister of Uttarakhand for a second consecutive term, the BJP announced on Wednesday, ending 11 days of tension over it. The BJP’s dilemma over choosing a prime minister for Uttarakhand was triggered by Dhami’s loss in Khatima, a seat he had won since the 2012 Assembly polls.
The decision appears to be recognition for Dhami who led the party’s campaign in the hill state, leading to a record for the second consecutive term. The Legislative Party BJP meeting to elect the new prime minister of Uttarakhand had started here around 5pm. It was attended by the BJP’s central observers for Uttarakhand Rajnath Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi and the polling party for the state, Pralhad Joshi.
