With 2,528 new COVID-19 cases reported in a day, the number of infections in India now stands at 4,3004,005, while the number of active cases fell below 30,000 after about 685 days, according to the Union Ministry of Health on Friday.

The death toll from the disease has risen to 5,16,281 with 149 daily fatalities, data updated by the ministry at 8 a.m. shows.

The number of active cases has fallen to 29,181, representing 0.07 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has further improved to 98.73 percent, the health ministry said.

The data showed a reduction of 1,618 cases in the country’s active COVID-19 caseload over a 24-hour period.

There has also been an ongoing decline in weekly and daily positivity rates, the ministry said.
Both were registered at 0.40 percent, it added.

A total of 6,33,867 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. India has conducted more than 78.18 crore tests for the disease so far.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 4,24,58,543, while the death rate was registered at 1.20 percent, the data showed.

The cumulative number of doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign has exceeded 180.97 crore.

The number of COVID-19 infections in India had crossed the mark of 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and the mark of one crore on December 19, 2020.

The country passed the grim milestones of two crore cases on May 4, 2021 and three crore on June 23.

Among the 149 new fatalities, 130 are from Kerala.

A total of 5,16,281 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in the country so far, including 1,43,762 from Maharashtra, 67,138 from Kerala, 40,028 from Karnataka, 38,025 from Tamil Nadu, 26,145 from Delhi, 23,492 from Uttar Pradesh and 21,192 from Western countries. -Bengal.

The Ministry of Health stressed that more than 70 percent of deaths were due to comorbidities.

“Our figures are being brought into line with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the dissemination of figures about the state is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
