Snow Marathon: Adventure Sports Boost! The government of Lahaul and Spiti, along with Reach India, will host a snow marathon on March 26. This will be the first and unique snow marathon to be held in India. The details of the event, including the specs, were shared on Saturday by Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti Neeraj Kumar, Colonel Arun Natarajan, who is the Chief Event Advisor, Head of Event Execution Rajesh Chand and Gaurav Schimer, the founder of the event, during a press conference in Palchan, near Manali in Himachal Pradesh. At the conference, they also said there are 10 such ice, winter or snow marathons being held worldwide, according to a report in IE.

Organizers said this was the first time a snow marathon would be held anywhere in India, adding that they hoped to make it an annual affair. The event will be more challenging than any other format of marathons run to date for runners in India and therefore it would improve the runners’ ability.
The Snow Marathon will have four categories: a full marathon, in which the participants have to run 42 kilometers, and three variants of half marathons of 21 km, 10 km and 5 km. The logistical, monetary and administrative support of the event is provided by the administration of Lahaul and Spiti
Hoping the marathon would be a great training ground for runners looking to compete in similar races worldwide, organizers said they couldn’t think of any other place better for India’s first snow marathon than Lahaul. Both national and international runners participate in the race, and medical emergencies are also taken care of. The organizers contacted Fortis Hospital, Mohali, who agreed to serve as a medical partner in the event of an untoward event during the marathon.
In fact, during the event, an entire team of doctors and paramedics, along with two modern life-saving ambulances, would be on hand to provide timely medical assistance.
