Following ‘Khela Hobe’ in West Bengal’s 2021 election polls, ‘Khamosh’ has become the new slogan in the upcoming state bypoll in Asansol, with even the BJP taking over from actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha’s iconic dialogue .
BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul in Asansol, who started her campaign with prayer in a temple on Sunday, said she was 200% sure of winning the Asansol seat. “I am sure I will win the seat and Trinamool can line up an outsider Shatrughan Sinha (as our CM taught us to call anyone from out of state) and he will leave Asansol saying ‘Khamosh’. Asansol is a traditional seat of BJP, not Trinamool,” said Paul.
Asansol residents are eagerly awaiting Shatrughan Sinha’s own slogan, members of the All India Trinamool Congress said. “We are confident that Trinamool will win a landslide in Asansol,” said a party member, who declined to be identified.
Sinha began campaigning on Sunday evening after reaching West Bengal with a roadshow from Andal airport to the town of Asansol and the workers’ rally. His daughter, actress Sonakshi Sinha, is likely to accompany him during his campaign.
‘Khela Hobe’ became an instant hit in the election polls, with the jingle playing in every campaign. The AITC turned ‘Khela Hobe’ into an anthem that became an instant hit during Mamata Banerjee’s and her party’s election campaigns.
Meanwhile, Babul Supriyo, candidate for AITC’s Ballygunge meeting, also kicked off his campaign in the constituency on Sunday.
From the Asansol Lok Sabha seat, which was vacated by former Union minister Babul Supriyo, the BJP party has drafted MLA of Asansol (South) Agnimitra Paul. A fashion designer turned politician, Paul had beaten Sayoni Ghosh of the AITC in the 2021 election polls. The Asansol seat is prestigious for both parties, as Supriyo was twice the BJP MP, winning in 2014 and 2019. The seat came to an end. released after Supriyo defected to the AITC last year.
