The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked for a response from the government of Uttar Pradesh to a plea against granting bail by the Supreme Court of Allahabad to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eight people, including four farmers, dead.

A special bench made up of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Judges Surya Kant and Hima Kohli took note of statements that one of the witnesses was attacked and asked the state to protect the witnesses of the case.
