When asked, Raut accused the BJP of destroying the “culture and humor” that previously characterized Maharashtra’s politics.

The coalition government of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra will serve a full term in office and retain power in the 2024 parliamentary elections, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said here on Friday.

Raut’s comments came a day after former Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the BJP will take power independently in Maharashtra in the next election, as in neighboring Goa.

The MVA consists of the Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress and Congress.

“The government of Uddhav Thackeray has had two and a half years. Another two and a half years pass. There will be elections again (in 2024) and we will retain power,” Raut told reporters here.

Asked about Fadnavis’ comment, Raut said Fadnavis was in charge of the BJP for the Goa Assembly polls and that the victory in that state has encouraged him to make such a prediction.

But Fadnavis will soon find out what Goa is, said the leader of Shiv Sena cryptically.

“Even the Portuguese and British did not understand Goa. Several political parties couldn’t understand it either,” he said.

When asked, Raut accused the BJP of destroying the “culture and humor” that previously characterized Maharashtra’s politics.

“People are now afraid to talk. Such a situation did not exist in Maharashtra before. Unfortunately, our friends in the BJP have done this,” he said.
