The first phase of the partnership will focus on successfully implementing a personalized math learning environment across 488 schools, more than 100,000 students and more than 2,000 teachers in Maharashtra.

The School Education and Sports Department of the Government of Maharashtra has partnered with Khan Academy India to improve math learning outcomes for students from grades 1 to 10 in government schools in Maharashtra.

Under the partnership, Khan Academy’s team is working closely with the government of Maharashtra to train more than 2,000 teachers, 36 district node officials and 488 principals. The first phase of the partnership will focus on successfully implementing a personalized math learning environment in 488 schools for more than 100,000 students in Maharashtra. This will be further extended to more schools and independent learners who will benefit from free access to the full library of content.

Maharashtra Government and Khan Academy India have been collaborating since 2021 to recreate Khan Academy’s high-quality math content consisting of more than 700 videos, articles and practice exercises in Marathi. These will all be available on the SCERT Maharashtra website alongside the Khan Academy. This will help students build a solid foundation of maths understanding, at their own pace, with any device and for free.

“It is our duty to provide the best quality education and facilities to our students who are the future of society and the country. I am delighted to see organizations such as Khan Academy working with the state government on a common vision of creating a better learning infrastructure,” said Varsha Gaikwad, Minister of School Education, Maharashtra.

This partnership provides access to high-quality math learning content in Marathi to help students learn in their native language. In addition, all teachers in these government schools will receive training to utilize online learning resources and provide a personalized learning experience based on each student’s progress. Teachers have access to the necessary online tools and real-time data to identify and address learning gaps, both at the classroom and individual level.

“Our partnership with Khan Academy is focused on providing our students with the best learning infrastructure, aided by world-class technology and content in their native language. As schools reopen, we are providing a superior classroom experience that will help us address the learning gap in students by offering them personalized learning,” added Vishal Solanki, Commissioner, Education.
