Vaccination against COVID-19 in the 12-14 age group started Wednesday with Biological E’s intramuscular vaccine Corbevax, which includes two doses 28 days apart.
More than 3 lakh children aged between 12 and 14 have received their first injection of Covid vaccine, with the total doses administered in the country reaching over 180.80 crore, according to Union Health Ministry data.
Vaccination against COVID-19 in the 12-14 age group started Wednesday with Biological E’s intramuscular vaccine Corbevax, which includes two doses 28 days apart. As of March 1, 2021, there were 4.7 crore children aged 12 and 13 in the country.
More than 2.15 crore precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to healthcare professionals and frontline workers, and to individuals over 60 years of age. All people 60 years and older are eligible for the precautionary dose for the Covid vaccine. The prioritization and sequencing of the dose would be based on the completion of nine months to 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose.
The nationwide vaccination campaign was rolled out on January 16, 2021, with health workers vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started on February 2 last year.
The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began on March 1 last year for people over 60 and people 45 and over with specified comorbidities. India launched vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from 1 April last year.
The cabinet subsequently decided to expand the vaccination campaign by having everyone over the age of 18 vaccinated against the virus from 1 May last year.
The next phase of Covid vaccination has started from January 3 this year for young people in the age group of 15-18 years. India started administering precautionary doses of the vaccines from January 10 this year to health care workers and frontline workers and people over 60 with comorbidities.
