The Railway Board announced on Friday that Visakhapatnam will soon implement the center’s ‘One Station, One Product’ concept.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Union’s recent budget the concept of ‘One Station, One Product’ to help local businesses and supply chains. Based on the hugely popular ‘One District, One Product’ scheme, the concept aims to promote the supply chain of local products using the Indian Railways network, turning each station into a showcase destination and promotion center for local products. .

Vishakapatnam will be the first station in the East Coast Railway network to implement the concept and run it on a trial basis for 15 days. The station will become a display center for toys and handicraft products from the famous nearby Etikoppaka lacquerware toy production village.

Waltair Divisional Manager Anup Kumar Sethupathi told ANI that Visakhapatnam would be a magnet to attract sales. Sethupathi said the station would act as a marketing channel and allocate a stall to the local product, separate from the area. The Railway Board has recommended identifying one station in each zone for the implementation of the concept, initially on the basis of a 15-day trial period.

Visakhapatnam has been identified as the first East Coast Railway zone station to implement the concept, he added.

Another department official told ANI that authorities would place temporary kiosks at the station to showcase and sell craft products. The kiosks will be placed in easily accessible places. The artisans will be identified through local self-help groups, NGOs and cooperatives involved with the products.

Interested parties have been asked to submit their applications to the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager.

Officials also called on craftsmen with wood-making expertise from Visakhapatnam to take this opportunity to market their products.

The Railway Board has also selected Tirupati under South Central Railway for the concept to showcase local Kalamkari textiles/art and wood crafts.
