This is part of a global partnership between PepsiCo and N-Drip aimed at increasing water efficiency on 10,000 acres around the world by 2025, the company said in a statement.
Food and beverage wholesaler PepsiCo India on Thursday announced a partnership with N-Drip, a manufacturer of gravity-driven micro-irrigation systems, to help farmers in India increase water efficiency.
This is part of a global partnership between PepsiCo and N-Drip aimed at increasing water efficiency on 10,000 acres around the world by 2025, the company said in a statement.
N-Drip’s technology has already been introduced in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan to improve the water efficiency of thousands of hectares in the country by 2025, PepsiCo India added.
These states are beginning to see clear results in the form of improved crop yields, reduced fertilizer use and an average 39 percent reduction in water use compared to flood irrigation.
“The initial reactions to the pilot project were very encouraging. In the states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan, we are already seeing improved crop yields, reduced fertilizer use and an average 39 percent reduction in water consumption compared to flood irrigation,” said Pratap Bose, director of PepsiCo India Agro, Supply Chain .
An agro-centric company at heart, PepsiCo India has spent the past 30 years working to increase efficiencies in its agri-supply chain to reduce water consumption by providing alternatives to flood irrigation practices. “The partnership with N-Drip is another step in that direction,” added Bose.
Eran Pollak, Chief Executive Officer of N-Drip, said the partnership with PepsiCo aims to remove barriers to entry and introduce and implement N-Drip technology for farmers in India.
“As PepsiCo sources crops from farms of all sizes, N-Drip’s proprietary technology enables our partnership to make accurate irrigation accessible to all types of farmers, from those with huge farms to those with one-acre plots,” added PepsiCo. he to it.
Pollak said that based on the experiences and practices of local farmers over the past two years using the N-Drip system in various areas in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan, the company “has been able to develop our solution, and create a perfect fit for the Indian market”.
Headquartered in Israel, N-Drip’s highly efficient irrigation system is a replacement for flood or ditch irrigation. Powered by gravity, it uses the water-saving benefits of high-pressure drip irrigation, but with low energy, operating and maintenance requirements — making it more accessible to all types of farmers and nearly all types of crops, the statement said.
“Farmers using N-Drip routinely realize significant water savings, see increased crop yields and reduce the need for expensive fertilizers,” it added.
