Zuckerberg gave some important advice to college students, saying it was paramount for people to decide who to spend time with during their studies, adding that what someone became depended on the people they surround themselves with. He spoke in a podcast hosted by MIT computer scientist Lex Fridman, when he said that people tended to be very objectively focused and as a result didn’t look at the connections they made or the relationships they cultivate.
Zuckerberg added that he tended to prioritize relationships over goals, adding that as he evaluated a candidate’s profile while hiring, he tended to imagine what it would be like if Mark would work for the candidate, rather than seeing him as the boss. † He only hired someone to work for him, Mark said, if he saw himself working for them.
He believes that using this strategy enabled Mark to create a productive environment because personal compatibility was important. Zuckerberg said that when you work with people who share the same values on a human level, goals can be achieved in a better way.
