Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw lashed out at the opposition on Wednesday for picking holes in the functioning of his ministry. †
In response to a discussion about requests for grants to the railway ministry for 2022-23 in Lok Sabha, the minister denounced opposition members for calling the government proposals “propaganda” and “mungeri laal ke haseen sapne” (fantasy dreams).
He listed a number of initiatives taken by the government under Modi to get Indian Railways back on track from what he called “policy paralysis” during the UPA regime, and said capital investments, which were one of the biggest problems , increased to over Rs 95,000 crore in 2019 from Rs 45,980 crore in 2014.
For 2022-23, there is a record allocation of Rs 2.45 lakh crore, he said.
“It’s easier said than done. (TMC member) Kalyan Banerjee listed the goals set and achieved (by Ministry). Rithesh Pandey ji (from BSP) said mungeri laal ke haseen spne hain,” he said.
He said he takes opposition members’ suggestions “very seriously” but that they should talk with facts.
He highlighted the various achievements of his ministry, including those related to the electrification of railways and freight corridors, and presented facts and figures in Parliament.
“These are hard facts, real achievements. Is this propaganda?” he asked, lashing out at the opposition, saying the ‘problem with them is something else. This is the problem with their party. While our prime minister works day and night to build the nation, no one knows when and where their leaders are going on vacation.”
