As of tonight, Adityanath will remain in Gorakhpur, his former Lok Sabha and current constituency, for three days.

Yogi Adityanath, the elected Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh, will lead a large Holika-Dahan procession tonight in Gorakhpur ahead of his swearing-in ceremony expected to be held Monday. Adityanath will also lead a Bhagwan Narsingh Holikotsav Shobha yatra on Saturday, one day after Holi. The events are being held after a two-year hiatus after being postponed due to the pandemic. As of tonight, Adityanath will remain in Gorakhpur, his former Lok Sabha and current constituency, for three days.

According to tradition, the head of the Goraksh Peeth rides on top of the Bhagwan Narshingh Rath every year and exchanges Holi wishes with everyone. Since Yogi Adityanath is the head of the Peeth after Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avaidyanath, he continues the tradition. The procession is attended by a large number of BJP and RSS workers and covers a distance of 5 kilometers before ending at the temple.

Meanwhile, preparations regarding festivities and security arrangements are underway at Gorakhnath Temple as Adityanath will also visit the temple tomorrow on the occasion of Holi.

Previously, Yogi Adityanath had held talks with BJP president JP Nadda as part of the exercise to solidify the contours of the new government following the party’s overwhelming victory in recent election polls. BJP leaders are grappling with whether former Uttar Pradesh deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya can be accommodated in Yogi Adityanath’s new cabinet. Maurya had lost his Sirathu seat in the recent elections.

The BJP is not yet sure whether there will be a post of deputy prime minister in Uttar Pradesh and whether Maurya can be reinstated in his old position despite the loss. If the party decides to go ahead with Maurya, she can use the Legislative Council route to take him to the meeting. Former Samajwadi party leader Aparna Yadav can also become an MLC and find a place in the Yogi cabinet. However, no official announcement has been made about the move yet.
